Xin chao (hello) from Vietnam!
We just wrapped up day three of our build and the team is in high spirits! We have completed the foundation and laid 20 rows of bricks so far. It has been very hot and muggy and we have been pouring sweat!
The family whose home we are building has four kids – three girls and a boy. We met two of the daughters today. The husband, Hoan, has been building along side us and his wife has been bringing us fresh watermelon, star fruit, bananas, dragon fruit, and green tea to enjoy during our breaks.
Vietnam is a beautiful country and the the people could not be more welcoming. We are looking forward to finishing our last two days strong and celebrating our accomplishments with the families, Habitat for Humanity Vietnam staff, and other volunteers we have met during this experience.
Tam biet (goodbye)!
Andrew Donilon, Former Volunteer Coordinator for HFHVV
In 2016, Andrew and eight other volunteers from the Vail area participated in Habitat for Humanity’s Big Build event in Vietnam’s Phu Tho province. The local team joined more than 250 volunteers from around the world and built 30 homes in the rural community of tea farmers.
