Building Futures empowers community members by connecting them to services and supports as they work towards, and in some cases transition into, homeownership.

Habitat for Humanity Vail Valley is more than a home builder: We are a long-term trusted partner in social and health services. For years, we’ve connected those in need with service providers. In 2022, the program was formalized and Building Futures was launched. The root of many problems — mental and physical health, employment, financial challenges — is the lack of safe, affordable housing. Building Futures offers support to help increase self-sufficiency and access to community resources and opportunities. The ultimate goal is to support families and community members in improving their lives.

Betsy is just one person Habitat for Humanity Vail Valley’s Building Futures Coordinator connected with since starting in January 2024. The coordinator continues to build strong relationships with individuals in need, connecting them to critical services and navigating complicated systems. He has established partnerships with many other area nonprofits, ensuring no duplication of services.

Top three areas of need are housing, medical and financial help/counseling. The Family Services team has always provided financial counseling to partner families and all applicants (almost 200 in the latest round). Now, non-Habitat homeowners can receive financial counseling. The Building Futures team meets clients at throughout the community.
