Building Futures
Building Futures is an innovative program to empower community members by connecting them to services and supports as they work towards, and in some cases transition into, homeownership.

Main Menu
Families seeking housing support services often have a host of needs for other basic services, such as food security, debt consolidation / financing, behavioral health services and immigration support. If these needs are addressed and systemic inequities are decreased, families are more likely to thrive and are able to give back to their community. This comprehensive and collaborative program offers support that extends beyond Habitat’s historic services and curriculum. The main goals of this program are self-sufficiency, increased access to community resources and opportunities, and growth in personal finance and education, ultimately supporting families and community members in improving their lives.

After moving four times in the following month, it was clear they needed help with housing. As the family had limited knowledge of community resources, an area nonprofit referred Maria to Habitat for Humanity Vail Valley.

The Building Futures team worked with the Salvation Army and Catholic Charities for rental assistance and Walmart gift cards. The community rallied around this family: Heaven on Earth/Elf Angel, Eagle County School District, local businesses and Eagle County residents all contributed.
“Families who come to our office have many needs apart from housing stability. Our goal is to connect households to existing community resources,” shares Caitlin Weis, Family Services manager. “When basic needs are met, they are more able to focus on their path to homeownership. We know housing stability positively impacts a family’s overall well-being"
