Tanya

There are some people who don’t sit still, whose ripples of influence go far beyond their home. Tanya strives to make an impact in the community. She helped build, and then purchased, her Habitat home just in time for Christmas 2022. It was the perfect gift at the end of a busy year for Tanya and her daughter.

Tanya is a lifelong learner and long-time local, committed to her community. She earned an MSW while creating a program for families and young people at Battle Mountain High School. Simultaneously, she interned with Your Hope Center as a counselor. In 2023, she joined the Early Childhood department at Eagle County School District as a counselor. Here, she provides mental health consultations and helps with children’s social-emotional development.

She’s a compassionate mother with a strong support system. But life was challenging when she and her daughter shared a room at her mother’s home. As a single mother, she didn’t know how she would afford to stay here — where she calls home. Her Habitat home is key for Tanya, allowing her to do the work that calls her.

“I work with all the preschool programs from Gypsum to Vail. It’s hard to find counseling in both languages here — it’s a very big need in our community. It pushed me to move forward— to be able to provide the community with counseling,” Tanya says.

“Having a bilingual counselor is a unique gift to Your Hope Center and Eagle County Schools. She is dedicated and invested in our community,” says Carrie Benway, executive director of Your Hope Center

Without a safe, affordable home, the impact she has on families would not be possible. Tanya’s Habitat home allows her to flourish near her family and provide support and stability for future generations.
