Global Village Information

What is Global Village?

Established in 1989, Global Village is Habitat for Humanity’s international short-term volunteer program. Global Village welcomes groups made up of 12-16 volunteers who are all at least 18 years old. The program aims to build or improve homes by partnering with communities around the world to address safety and livability standards, aligning with Habitat’s vision where everyone has a decent place to live. In 2019, Global Village operated in 30 countries and managed over 13,000 local and international volunteers annually.

From 2009 to 2019 Habitat Vail Valley sent volunteer teams to Paraguay, Cambodia, Honduras, Malawi, El Salvador, Nepal, Vietnam, Colombia, and Guatemala.  We’ve recruited small groups of Habitat Vail Valley volunteers and traveled together to help the global community improve living conditions and have a life changing experience learning about different cultures.

How much does it cost to join a Global Village build and what is included in the program donation?

All volunteers are required to make a program donation ranging from $1,625-$2,700, which can be fundraised.

  • Trip cancellation insurance (for international builds only).
  • A possible subsidy for team leader expenses.

Airfare, activity costs outside of the itinerary, visa and exit fees and any associated vaccines are not included.
