Homeownership Applications OPEN

A Home is Everything

Habitat for Humanity Vail Valley is intent on helping more hardworking locals achieve the dream of homeownership. Owning a home is further out of reach than ever but Habitat is partnering to build more homes.

For almost 30 years, Habitat has partnered with locals to help build homes and hope. Since 1995, Habitat has built 128 homes and is breaking ground on 16 additional homes this summer. Eagle County residents are encouraged to apply to become a Habitat homeowner.

“We encourage everyone to reach out and apply to our homeownership program,” explains Caitlin Weis, Habitat Family Services manager. “Applying for a home is just the first step in what becomes a long-term relationship. We’ve worked with more than 500 people since building our first home — and look forward to meeting many more future homeowners.”

Habitat homeowners help build their own homes alongside volunteers and pay an affordable mortgage. Habitat homeowners can be anyone: single parents, families, couples without children, single people, blended families — anyone who needs a safe, affordable home.

Future homeowners show need, ability to pay and willingness to partner. Each applicant will meet with a Habitat staff member who will guide them through the process.

Habitat for Humanity Vail Valley has lots in Stratton Flats in Gypsum, is finalizing plans for ten Habitat homes in the Timber Ridge redevelopment and will be working towards another partnership with Eagle County School District. In April, Superintendent Phil Qualman indicated that partnering with Habitat — as they have at the Third Street development in Eagle and Grace Avenue in Gypsum — was the “only way we can get into something that’s affordable.”

A stable, affordable home creates health equity and positive behavioral and physical health for kids, families and the community.
