Watching homeowners sign dozens of documents might not sound like an exciting event, but when it comes to watching community members sign the closing papers and officially become homeowners, it is incredibly inspiring. Closings are one of many huge milestones for partner families in their partnership with Habitat for Humanity Vail Valley, as part of their journey to affordable homeownership, stability and putting down deeper roots in the community (or something). For a lot of homeowners, it is when it all starts feeling real and they start to imagine their new life as homeowners. Read on to learn more about some of the newest owners in Timber Ridge in Vail.
Saul
Saul has lived in the Vail Valley for over five years now and is a Project Manager for Vail Resorts in the Beaver Creek Transportation department. He has a teenage daughter that has been living in Puerto Rico but will be able to move in with him now that he has stable housing.
Raya
Raya moved to Eagle County 22 years ago and has raised her three children here in the years since. She is a Property Manager at Polar Star Properties and works part time as a server at Bob’s Place. Raya speaks four languages and has been active in the community the entire time she has lived here.
Taylor
Taylor works for the Eagle County School District as the Communication Manager and coaches volleyball at Homestake Peak School in Eagle Vail. Being a homeowner allows Taylor to have her adult brother who is unable to live on his own, to move in with her. She loves being a part of the community here and can’t wait for her brother to join as well.
Jamie
Jamie is a single father to two children, one son and one daughter. He works as a driver for Builders First Source and has been a part of the Eagle County community for years. He spends his free time cheering his kids on at their soccer and basketball games at Eagle Valley High School.
Kadia
Kadia works as a Patient Services Specialized at Eagle Valley Family Practice and at the Well & Being Spa at the Hythe. She has lived with her extended family for most of her life, but after getting married, she has been working hard to own a home that she can build a family and a life in.
Miriah
Mirah was born and raised in the Vail Valley, she is a Battle Mountain High School Alumni and has been working for Vail Resorts for over 15 years! She spends her weekends volunteering at a local pet rescue, walking dogs, cleaning, and helping where she can. After having built a community and a life here, Mirah can’t believe that her dream of homeownership has come true and loves being able to walk to work!
Paola
Paola is a single mother to a teenager and works as a Spa Therapist at the Arrabelle. She has lived in the Vail Valley for over a decade now. Her son was so excited after they got selected and helped them quickly reach their 250 sweat equity hours.
Andrea and Jorge
Andrea and Jorge have two young children. She works at the City Market in Eagle and he is a Landscaper for Edelweiss Lawn and Garden. Having the opportunity to own a home means that they can raise their children in the community they love and provide a safe and staple environment for them to grow.
Erendira
Erendira is a single mom to one son that she describes as incredibly creative and artistic. She works as a Housekeeping Manager at the Borders Lodge and has built a community in the valley through her family, church, and now other Habitat homeowners. Eren shares that to them, “a Habitat home represents stability, opportunity, and permanent place where my son can grow, be creative, enjoy his childhood, and continue dreaming about his future.”
Maddie
Maddie is a lift mechanic at Beaver Creek who enjoys fishing, camping, and reading in her free time. She shares that owning a home in the Vail Valley will give her the ability to stay here in the place that she loves and allows her to grow her dream career in the ski industry that she has invested in for the last five years.
Rosavel
Rosavel is a Pharmacy Technician at Vail Health Hospital and also works at the Vail City Market. She is very proud to be a homeowner and feels that buying her home is a culmination of all of her hard work and perseverance.
Winston
Winston is a single dad to a teenage son and has lived in Eagle County for almost 20 years. Affordable homeownership through Habitat means giving his son a safe, stable, and healthy space to continue to grow. Winston shares how the stress of living in subpar rental units has impacted his own health, so owning a home has allowed him to lower his stress and work on improving his health.
Magali
Magali is the Assistant General Manager at the Vail City Market and has lived in the valley since 2014. She has one teenage son who plays hockey and football for Battle Mountain High School. Magali spends her free time volunteering as a Parent Mentor for YouthPower365 and The Cycle Effect.
Magali put our mission best when she, “Thank you for helping us build more than walls, we’re building independence and a future here at home.”
