The Habitat ReStore Vail Valley is a shopper’s paradise. Name brand, high-end furnishings and housewares (and more) sold at a fraction of retail prices. It is never the same store twice: Every day new inventory arrives.
Shop Local, Shop Late
We know shopping doesn’t always happen during business hours — our dedicated customers asked that we stay open later, and we answered! On November 17 the ReStore will be open until 7 p.m., allowing shoppers a chance to browse after hours. The ReStore moved locations earlier this year and is located at 250 Lindbergh Drive in Gypsum — just one block east of Costco.
“We’ve had a few Habitat ReStore supporters ask us to stay open later — getting to the store during the day can be tricky. We’re going to try something new and stay open late November 17. If it’s a success, we may work it into our monthly schedule, so I hope shoppers stop in,” says Ann Logel, ReStore manager. “We’ve received some really great inventory — dining tables, tiles, artwork — that can bring new life to a home.”
The [Re]Store that Builds Homes
The Habitat ReStore Vail Valley helps homeowners four ways: providing high-quality furnishings and housewares at fraction of the retail price; picking up unwanted items from homeowners to later sell in the ReStore, thereby keeping quality, usable items out of the landfill; and then funneling the dollars from sales back into Habitat to build more affordable homes for hardworking locals.
The formula works! In 2022, Habitat Vail Valley will complete eight homes in partnership with local families. That is 100 homes since the organization’s inception in 1995. While Habitat is the builder, we can’t do it alone.
“We’re appreciate the donors who call us to pick up their gently used items, from coffee tables to sofas, appliances to building materials. Unloading the truck feels like Christmas every day and our shoppers and homeowners are the ones who benefit,” Logel adds.
The ReStore also sells new mattresses and bedding, which is super helpful for all the new employees coming in for the ski season. For a small fee, the ReStore can even deliver items.
Homes for the Holidays
With a tight construction schedule, homes will be ready for families by the holidays. On December 18, Habitat Vail Valley will host a home dedication ceremony for the new homeowners.
“We are working diligently to get homeowners in for winter holidays,” says Doug Amberg, director of construction. “Our team has been working hard, with partner families and volunteer groups, to make the homes ready for move in. It’s exciting to be part of this process. I can’t imagine how the families are feeling — it’s so close!”
Everyone works together as part of a smaller community. The same goes for Habitat Vail Valley and the Habitat ReStore. Together, we accomplish great things for families living in Eagle County.
The ReStore is open Tuesday – Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The ReStore will be closed Thanksgiving Day and December 23-January 5; reopening January 6, 2023. Shop online> habitatvailvalley.org/restore. Call for a donation pickup> 970.328.1119.
