Construction Intern

Habitat for Humanity of Eagle and Lake Counties is offering a 3-6 month internship opportunity in the construction/construction management field.  During the internship, students will gain experience in project management including plan reading, submittals, and design assistance; Learn the ins and outs of job site supervision including inspections, subcontractor coordination and management of workers and volunteers; Understand all building techniques through hands on construction of residential homes including concrete, framing, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, drywall and interior finishes; Earn LEED hours and build LEED certified homes; Improve public speaking and leadership skills while leading volunteer groups and individuals of diverse backgrounds and ages; and Help hardworking local families in need.

Qualifications:

  • Required: HS diploma; Previous basic experience with computers, MS office applications, email and internet; Ability to drive a non-commercial vehicle; Valid driver’s license.
  • Preferred: Basic knowledge of construction project management or supervision; Previous experience in an area of construction; Semi-skilled carpentry experience; Ability to read construction plans; Small group public speaking experience; Previous coaching or leadership experience.

Habitat for Humanity, a not for profit organization based in the Vail valley of the Rocky Mountains of Colorado, brings people together to build homes, communities and hope.  Habitat builds simple, decent, affordable homes in partnership with local families in need.  Habitat homes are built by volunteers and professionals and are LEED certified, demonstrating our commitment to sustainability and the environment.  Our affiliate is currently building 6 homes per year and is striving to build 8 homes per year by 2014.  Founded in 1995, Habitat for Humanity of Eagle and Lake Counties has built 35 homes to date housing over 110 children. Habitat families are citizens or legal permanent residents of the United States.  They are qualified and selected based on their need for stable housing, their ability to pay an interest free mortgage and their willingness to work in partnership with Habitat.  Each family contributes 250 hours per adult towards the construction of their home and participates in homeownership education courses.
