Building Little Green Houses

Habitat for Humanity of Eagle & Lake Counties is a leader among affiliates in affordable Green Building practices being recognized as the first in Colorado to design and build to LEED Silver specifications. This building model makes the homes more ecologically sustainable and helps reduce utility costs for families. For example, after some time in their homes, Fox Hollow families have determined that their average monthly gas bill is only $51/month with 4 gas appliances (furnace, water heater, dryer, range) and fairly heavy usage!
HFHELC maximizes its capital and home building capacity through its partnerships with area

professional builders. This program is unique to HFHELC and encourages efficient building processes through professionals sharing their expertise while maintaining the Habitat volunteer model. This allows Habitat to build the best homes possible for the dollars spent and allows us to receive grants for our green building practice. Each year we receive grant funding from The Home Depot Foundation as well as many others.
